Use conditions to prevent expensive turns
Conditions matter most when they change the enemy's next useful action. Check timing and immunity, and compare prevention with immediate removal.

How do you choose a condition target?
Read the enemy’s revealed action first. A movement-related condition matters differently for a distant melee enemy than for one already in attack range. An attack-preventing effect is most valuable on a dangerous attacker that would otherwise survive. Conditions should solve the threat in front of you rather than decorate an enemy that the party is already certain to defeat.
How should you handle conditions on allies?
Inspect what the condition prevents and when it ends. Decide whether to remove it, play a useful unaffected action or reposition to make the next round safer. Check the digital tooltip rather than relying on a remembered Gloomhaven interaction. Some heroes deliberately interact with negative conditions, but that does not mean every condition or every timing window helps them. Coordinate before applying a cost or accepting transferred harm.
What are the frequent mistakes?
Do not assume that a boss accepts every condition; inspect its immunities and scenario rules. Do not build a turn around a status effect that expires before the intended follow-up. Healing, condition removal and attack prevention can have different outcomes, so read the ability rather than treating them as interchangeable. When a combination seems exceptionally strong, verify each step separately: legal target, application, duration and the effect on the actual enemy action. Revise the plan if any step fails.
Which references should you keep nearby?
Use the class library to understand your party, consult card economy when planning endurance, and open the world map between expeditions.
